Camera Operator

Key Duties:

-You have to work closely with the performers, while giving them constructive advice/criticism to help improve the filming.

-You must be able to operate one of the several cameras without making mistakes, while capturing images.

-You must be able to multitask, by watching,listening and thinking, at the same time on your feet, while holding a high tech camera.

-Need to have good colour vision, so that you can capture every image professionally, without making mistakes.

-You must have good IT skills, so that you know how to work well with the high tech equipment.

Do You Need Any Qualifications:

-There are no qualifications that you could need for being a camera operator, but there are some courses that could help you understand the job more, such as "Apprenticeship in Creative and Digital Media". This course could help you gain more camera skills that could be very useful when doing the job.

In the hierarchy people who are the camera operators listen to the director, and are not in charge of anyone but can give the actors advice and criticism to help the filming improve.

Sound Mixing

Key Duties:

-You have to oversee all sound to make sure that they work, during the filming process.

-Must be able to identify the sound requirements for each of the productions.

-You have to be able to images and other visual sources with sound, and make special effects.

-You have to be willing to be able to work for long hours fixing the sound.

-To be a sound mixer, you would normally need to have at least 5 to 10 years of experience with sound, such as being a technician or a boom operator.

Vision Mixing

Key Duties:

-You must edit programs live, as they are happening, without making any mistakes.

-You have to use a variety of editing methods, such as cuts,fades,etc.

Directing

Set Designer

Key Duties:

-You need to analyze the script and list all items that is needed for the set.

-You need to find some props that you could hire or make for the filming.

-You have to keep detailed records before and during the shooting, and you need to return every prop when they are no longer needed.

-You need a good sense in colour and form.

Key Duties:

-You have to use the script of brief given by the production team to make a specific look required for every single shot.

-You need to be able to realize the design and you have to help with the lighting department.

-You need to be able to stay focused for a long period of time to make sure every shot has the lighting done on a professional level.

-You need to have strong skills when it comes to leadership, so that you can motivate and manage the rest of the lighting team.

-There are not any specific qualifications you need to work as a lighting desk, but there are a lot of basic lighting training courses available that could be very useful, to gain more skills when it comes to lighting, which could lead to the work being more professional, since you have developed skills.

-Working as a lighting desk means you work very close with the lighting director, and the senior electrification, and you mainly have to listen to the lighting director, and listen to all of their orders to make sure the production is done at a professional level, just as it is planned to turn out.

Floor Manager

Key Duties:

-You need to make sure that all of the equipment is working on set, and you have to do this before, and during the show.

-You have to understand the entire show, to make changes when you need to add something such as the set,props, etc.

Even though many presenters have higher level qualifications, any degree is relevant, but you have to develop your practical skills to be able to improve, a drama school would be very useful to train for your job.

Practical

-One practical reason for using multiple cameras would be that we can see the cameras are used to follow the wrestlers to get all the action. An example of this would be at 5:47, the audience are able to see one of the wrestlers walking around the ring to get his belt  and walk away. We can see multiple cameras are used to capture all the action to add more energy, we would not be able to do this with a single camera, since you wont be able to see the other wrestler, and it would look like he came out of nowhere, by doing this it gets people more into watching the whole thing. This is because it makes it look like the audience are looking around at everything that is happening, following the wrestlers to see what action takes place

-Another practical reason for this is that, due to the fact that it is done in a large area, multiple cameras would be needed to move around to capture what is going on in good quality. An example of this would be at  6:29 where the audience can see a shot of the crowd cheering and showing the ring, right after they cut to a shot right next to the ring. This would not be possible with a single camera, since the audience won't be able to see everything in a professional looking way. Some wrestling shows do this by putting a camera near the fans to show just a wide-shot of the ring without any other type of shot, which seems a bit boring and unprofessional. By using multiple cameras here, people can engage with it more, since it gets people to see everything that is exactly happening during the match, including things that are happening outside of the ring.

Aesthetic

-One aesthetic reason for this is that the audience will be able to see every persons reaction, so that the audience can see how people actually react at certain moments, this is used at 4:51 where the audience can see the full facial expression change from a wide angle mid shot, to a close up to one of the wrestlers face, showing a shocked reaction, this effects the audience by showing one of them getting frustrated, this effects the audience by possibly making them frustrated as well, it shows the audience how to react by simply showing how the wrestlers react.

-Another aesthetic reason would be communicating the meaning to the viewer. By using multiple cameras it shows what exactly the meaning is, by showing very important parts, such as peoples reactions. An example of this would be at 6:31, it tells the audience by zooming out showing everyone celebrating, that it was an energetic, surprising moment full of joy. This will make the audience happy whilst watching, since they can see that it means so much to everyone while they are cheering, which would lead to the viewer cheering too. You would not be able to do this with a single camera, due to the fact that it was impossible to get both a close up and an aerial shot of the ring/crowd straight after with just one camera.

Practical

-One practical reason would be getting everything that is happening on the stage on camera, so the audience would be able to see what exactly every band member is doing in good quality, an example of this would be at 0:33 when they keep going to different shots of the different members on the stage, this helps build tension, so the audience will see all the crazy movements the members are doing to build tension to the chorus. This effects the audience by slowly getting them more hyper, just like what the audience see the members doing.

-Another practical reason would be so that the audience could be able to see everything in the big area, such as people on both the stage and in the crowd, An example of this would be at 2:22 where it cuts to a shot of the lead singer, straight to the crowd cheering, then goes to a shot of both the crowd and the lead singer on stage. This leaves a impact on the audience watching, which adds more energy and will get them cheering along with the audience in the crowd, it makes it seem like the audience watching is actually there at the concert. You would not be able to do this with a single camera, since you would not have enough time to get both shots of the crowd and the stage at the same time, but with multiple cameras, that is made possible.

Aesthetic

-One aesthetic reason would be communicating the meaning to the audience watching. In this video communicating to the audience with the meaning occurs a lot. An example of this would be at 1:22, where it shows very fast cuts and zooms in of the members going crazy on the stage. This tells the audience that it is a crazy/energetic moment, with will build tension and will get the audience more hyper while watching, since they will see that the band members are energetic, it will get them energetic too.

-Another aesthetic reason would be maintaining the interest of the viewers watching. An example of them trying to get the audience more interested would be at 1:00 where they show the band members slowly getting more energetic.To build up to the chorus of the song, this builds tension to the audience, and they will slowly get more energetic as they keep watching. This would not be possible with a single camera, due to the fact that it would not be possible to get all shots of the band members in time since it is only one camera. By having multiple cameras to film, the audience can see every band member on stage building the tension.

Practical

-One practical reason would be able to cover all the action that is happening, an example of this would be at 0:41 where it shows all of the people playing the drums, then it goes to showing the audience and then all the people coming out of the grass mountain in the center of the stage. If this was done with a single camera it would have needed to be moved quickly to look at the center stage, which would seem unprofessional, but with multiple cameras, it was possible to have another camera to film the stage, and get everything that is happening on film.

-Another practical reason would be recording everything live, for people watching on their TV's. Multiple cameras are used to cover all of the action live, this leaves an impact on the audience watching, since they are able to see the whole performance, such as at 1:58 they can see all the men in suits walking to do their performance. This makes them feel like they are experiencing everything live, like they are actually there. This would not be possible with just a single camera since there might be a possibility when filming live, a camera might break, and none, or not all of the action will be recorded live, and would possibly receive complaints by the audience.

Aesthetic

-One Aesthetic reason would be to make the filming look more appealing to look at. An example of this would be at 2:25 where they show all the people arriving getting ready to perform, they show multiple shots of zooming in and out of all the people walking around, they put all the cameras next to the people walking around to make it look like audience are looking around, and are witnessing it, as if the audience were actually there on the field.

-Another Aesthetic reason would be getting the audience more interesting in watching more. They show very interesting camerawork at 4:16, by doing this, it gets the audience amazed with the good view and good camera movement, which adds more of an exiting experience for the audience, and will get them more interested.

-One practical reason would be covering everything that is happening. They do this at 5:28 where they show the three contestants, and then go to a shot of the screen. with just one camera it would only be one shot such as at 6:06 throughout the whole thing to get both filmed, but it would seem a bit boring having just that one shot throughout the whole show, so it makes it a better experience for the audience.

-Another practical reason would be to film in a huge area, since the place that they are filming is too large of an area to film with just one camera. The reason why they need multiple cameras to film is that they can be able to film everything in the big area, such as at 6:59 in a big area it was not possible to get that shot and the shot after in a professional way, by having multiple cameras, they can have cameras spread around the large area, so that they can film everything professionally.This effects the audience by making it more pleasing to watch, with the professional filming, which makes it more enjoyable for the audience.

Aesthetic

-One aesthetic reason would be communicating the meaning to the audience. By showing shots such as at 16:35 you could see that this competition means a lot to both contestants, and you would be able to see everything that is happening, and makes it more enjoyable for the audience to watch, since they can tell how much it means to the two contestants

-Another aesthetic reason would be keeping the audience interested in watching the show. They try to keep the audience interested at parts of the show, such as at 5:08 where they show the screen with the "Catchphrase" clue. By showing the screen it keeps the audience interested by letting them guess alongside the contestants, and makes them feel like they are in the game show at the same time while watching, which gets them more engaged in the show.

Practical

-One practical reason would be to add excitement by keeping up with all the action taking place. An example of this would be at 0:53 when the special guest Jim Parsons, was entering, we see a switch between cameras going straight to the entrance where the excitement would be. By doing this it could possibly surprise the audience,and would get them more energetic and joyful seeing the guest on TV. This would not be possible with a single camera since you cant switch cameras when you only have one camera and if you only had a single camera you would have to move it quickly to look at all of the action that is happening, which would not seem professional. By using multiple cameras, cameras are placed in the right areas to capture all of the action on a professional level.

-Another practical reason would be to show the audience everything that is happening such as at 4:49 where they show the screen. This lets the audience be aware of what exactly they are talking about since without having multiple cameras they wont be able to know what exactly is going on, and wont exactly see the clip of the movie, so this would not really be possible with a single camera, if done it would not look very professional.

Aesthetic 

-One aesthetic reason would be to keep people interested in watching, you can see they try to do this at 3:06 where they keep switching to different shots, This shows the whole stage and shows the pictures/videos which could seem very interesting to the audience and would keep them watching, to see if there is anything else that might get them more engaged into watching.

-Another aesthetic reason would be communicating to the audience by showing the interviewers and the interviewee's reactions. They do this at 2:06, this tells the audience that they are really amused and are having fun, which would lead to the audience watching have the same feeling and would be amused while watching. This makes the interview more humorous, by showing peoples reactions, it tells the audience how to feel. This would not be possible with a single camera, if done with just one camera, it would have to be moved quickly, which would not look very nice, but with multiple cameras, it is made possible to put cameras around the area to film the right parts.

-One practical reason would be keeping up with all of the action happening. An example of this is at 0:41 where you see that they are showing the act and all of the people jumping around, and also showing the judges reaction, showing that it is an impressive performance. This

-Another practical reason would be to show the whole area, since the stage is pretty large and there is the audience as well, they have to show everything, which is why at 1:14 they show the audience and then zooms out onto the stage. By doing this they show how high these people went, which could keep the audience entertained. This would not be possible with a single camera, since with just one camera you cant keep up with everything that is happening, on a professional level, since it would just look messy, but by using multiple cameras they can place them all in the right areas to capture all of the action.

Aesthetic 

-One aesthetic reason would be to maintain interest for the audience watching. An example of this would be at 0:56 where they keep switching to different shots and angles of all of the action happening and showing the presenters/judges reactions. By doing this it adds more energy, with showing everyone excited and the performers jumping around. All together this adds an energetic atmosphere and keeps the audience want to watch more. This would not be possible with a single camera due to the fact that it would not be possible to get all the right angles in time with just one camera, but with multiple cameras this is made possible.

-Another aesthetic reason would be communicating to the audience. This happens at 0:41 where they show the judges reactions. They show that they are amazed and this is an amazing and energetic performance. By doing this it gets the audience watching, amazed and more energetic, since by showing the judges it shows the audience how to react to the performance. This will not be possible with a single camera since it would not be possible to get everyone's reaction in time while the performance is happening at the same time on a professional level, but with multiple cameras this is made possible.

Practical

-One practical reason would to film everything in the large area. They do this at 0:18, where they show the large stage and the audience area. By doing this, they can show everyone that is there in the crowd, and they can show how large the stage is with the guest arriving, this could amaze the audience by seeing how many people are in the crowd, and how large the stage is, which could possibly entertain them. This would not be possible with a single camera, since it would not be possible to get all the shots in time, but with multiple cameras this is made possible.

-Another practical reason would be to cover all of the action, such as when the guest entered the stage at 0:41 and the reactions of both of the people on the stage. By doing this the audience watching can see everything that is going on and wont be confused wondering where the guest is coming from, if this was done with a single camera that would of been the case, but done with multiple cameras, the audience is able to see everything that is going on.

Aesthetic

-One aesthetic reason would be maintaining the viewers interest. An example of them trying to keep the audience interested would be at 3:04 where they show the screen showing the first ever top gear appearance. By showing the screen it keeps the audience interested wanting to know what happens next, which gets them more engaged into watching, since 3 minutes in they have not done anything apart from talking, so this could seem as a surprise to some first watching since its something different to what they have been doing for 3 minutes, which could seem interesting to them. This would not be possible with a single camera due to the fact that the camera would have to be moved, or zoomed out to capture the footage of the screen, but with multiple cameras, cameras are placed in the right areas to capture all of the footage.

-Another aesthetic reason would be communicating with the audience. They do this a lot throughout the video when they show the people one the stage reacting and laughing, such as at 5:00, this shows that the two people on the stage are having fun and are laughing, this would lead to the audience feeling the same way and having fun at the same time. since it shows the audience how to react, which makes it more enjoyable for some people to watch. This is not possible with a single camera, because if it was done with just one camera because with just a single camera, the camera would have to move quickly to both people while they are laughing, which would not look very professional, but with multiple cameras, they are placed in the right areas to capture the right footage and look professional.
